Solved: 8 Years, 9 Months ago Overture freezes during play on Ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit)

When I run Overture on Ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit), it starts off fine without any problem. After playing for a few minutes, the game freezes and freezes the OS too. I noticed that this mostly happens when I use a tool like hammer or steel rod and swing it or move the tool. My video card is nVidia GeForce 8600 M GS (rev1) and here's the hpl.log. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If it always happens after a few minutes, try disabling the screensaver. This worked for me. For some reason the screensaver tried to start and force the game to windowed mode, making all input to the game or the OS impossible (Ctrl + Alt + F? still worked, so I could kill the game from console).

Thanks for the reply. Your theory does seem very plausible and appropriate in this case. My game does go back to windowed mode as you said. I noticed that if I disable compiz, it does not happen. So that's what I have been doing and playing happily (or rather spookily I should say - hehe). Will try the screensaver trick too. Thanks again!
