Unfortunately that's exactly how I felt

except without the monocle

In that case can I buy your bubbly pipe for five hundred dollars?

Because those things are awesome.

Sorry, but I highly doubt that anything Daniel has been through compares to the pain, embarrassment, and shame of being strung up side down and sawed in half from the anus downwards.

Embarrassment? You think they were blushing whilst being tortured?!

I suddenly had a mental image of the prisoners saying "Onee-chan~~" affectionately while being tortured.

You think being the one doing the sawing is easy? From a physical standpoint of course there is no actual pain but sane people (like Daniel) cannot handle it.

More like the pre-torture embarrassment of being hung upside down naked and completely exposed.

That must be why Daniel so passionately thinks that his prisoners are "filth" and "good men can safely cheer departure as they are nothing but a burden to mankind," emirite?

Yes. It's a defense mechanism.

RE: This line annoys me.

To me, that line has a different meaning.

I think it isn't about self-pity. Before, he had to dehumanize his victims in order to accomplish the things that he did. Relating himself to them means destroying this protective barrier and finally being able to see them as human beings, thus acknowledging both their suffering and the truth behind his actions - which is that he is a messed up, broken man who acts on inner impulse, and not a harbinger of justice as he liked to imagine earlier. It takes effort to do that, because nobody likes to see themselves as an evil person and a murderer.

Essentially, it is a statement of remorse.

But even setting that aside, I simply hesitate to compare subjective experiences.

I'm sorry, but if I was the one about to be tortured the way I'm dressed would be the last thing on my mind.

RE: This line annoys me.

whether or not it annoys you has nothing to do with the fact that it exists and has already been made and is beyond your control

best to just get on with your life now, aye?
