RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here actually USED a controller for these games? Because if not, then the speculation about how viable or not they would be is just that.

For my part, I very much doubt Frictional would be making a PS4 version if controllers were not up to snuff while playing it.

Exactly. I think Googol said 'I hope FG reads this' a page or so back, but it's not like it's going to be a revelation to them.

PS: Sorry if this has already been posted. I looked a few pages back, but I didn't find it anywhere.

For my part, I very much doubt Frictional would be making a PS4 version if controllers were not up to snuff while playing it. Play AAMFP to see how HPL mechanics hold up with a controller (hint - they work very well)

OK, but has controller more priority than mouse in SOMA?

Anyway, after reading the interview, it seems like FG is working really hard on the story and wants to immerse us players into a world about our own existence. Great!!!

But I have a suggestion to you:

Please release the game with multilingual synchronization for west europe.
You now have a lot of budget and just have to find an external studio to record voices. As more it will be possible to feel immersed than when you only have to read the sub-titles. You can't really focus of what's happening in the game then. When there are fully synchronized voices, people will better understand the story and praise the game for its mediation. That would be so great!!!

It's like you guys would play a game in german with english subs, that's probably not really the perfect experience. I can read and write english a bit, but when I hear someone talking in english, I absolutely understand nothing. Anyway I found the english voices very good in Amnesia, but I it was hard for me to understand the story. And I think the story is the goal.

Except from the fact that you cannot reassign them. The whole system is broken when it comes to controller support there. The defaults work at least.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread

Regarding the interview, existential angst is one of the worst feelings you can get. The whole primal fear thing is fine, it makes for a fun and scary experience. But existential themes.. this I'm not sure about. That stuff can legitimately fuck with people for a long time, and not in a fun way. They're truly taking a risk with this - the least I can see happening, if they pull this off properly, is them losing a large part of the subset of gamers who are willing to play horror games. There's such a smaller number of people I feel who would be okay with this, people like me who have probably already pondered all of the themes they're bringing up, have already passed through the angst and won't be bothered by it, who will love and appreciate the game for doing it. They have to be really careful with this whole idea, I think they're walking a thin line.

That being said, I'm really excited what they come up with.

I never heard of existential angst, but that is a pretty deep idea.

Also, hi Thomas.
