Solved: 8 Years, 9 Months, 4 Weeks ago Sad  Crashes during gameplay

Hello everybody,

while I like SOMA a lot I have to say I'm getting more and more frustrated with it: I'm getting frequest random crashes during gameplay.

Game starts, save loads correctly and I can usually spend at least a few minutes playing. After that screen hangs, music keeps playing and after 10 secs the usual Win dialog box saying that SOMA.EXE stopped responding.

I'm running Win10 with a GeForce 560, SOMA is v.1.02 from Steam.

I have:
- unistalled all drivers (using DDU) and reinstalled latest version
- disabled vsync from game and enabled it from nVidia control panel
- physically disconnected 2nd monitor (just to be on the safe side)
- checked files cache
- reinstalled game on C: (previously was on FSmile
- disabled Steam overlay
- closed other apps (like Origin, Chrome, etc.)

unfortunately nothing worked so far. Very frustrating - right now I can't simply play the game (arriving to the Courier has been VERY painful but my patience is over).

I believe there have been issues with Windows 10 and SOMA. Have you tried setting the compatibility mode on the .exe to Windows 7?

Just tried Win7 compatibily mode and nothing changed (crashed after 1 min or so). Weird thing is that it seems things are getting worse (i.e. it's crashin more often now).

Guess I'll have to wait for Frictional to get back with a fix or something similar...

Hello, I have the same issue (Windows 10, 560 Ti) from the thread that was linked above.

Can you please look in Event Viewer, Windows Logs > System, do you get a number of nvlddmkm errors prior to SOMA stopping responding?

Checked and there are no errors on the Windows System Logs.

BTW, I changed the video card to a GTX 750Ti and the issue seems to be done - definitely looks like a problem specific to the video card.

Jens, could you perhaps add to the troubleshooting guide that the 560 is acting strange? We might not have a solution yet, but a note on it might be useful.

This has been reported to Nvidia and they are looking into it, not much we can do right now.
