Freezing when closing notes

I'm having a strange problem. I get a hard freeze when I close/exit some notes(letters, whatever). It appears to be random, but definitely tied to closing the note dialogs. The screen freezes, but I can still hear the ambient sound effects. I can sometimes see the windows "hourglass" loading cursor and am able to move my mouse around, but I cannot Alt-tab or Ctrl+Alt+Del. I am forced to reboot. Some notes I can exit fine.

I saw the troubleshooting thread that mentions *something* similar to this, with a possible fix, but frankly I do not want to bother playing the game with those post processing settings turned off.

I bought the game off Steam.

I will say this, the fear of my PC freezing adds an extra layer of horror to the game

Is your graphic card drivers up to date?

This happens to me too. But it doesnt freeze. The FPS just drops to like 20 for 4 seconds. I have an NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti. The drivers are fully updated. Strange, indeed.
