amnesia missing files or....?

Just yesterday my friend got me amnesia the steam version I was excited to make and play custom stories and also t edit the main menu. But when i opend the amnesia file on my computer it had no files in it sept one that said "main" i checked in side and only had some text files and my user folder but no custom story files nothin i played it and it plays perfectly and shows the custom stories option in the game! Do i have to beat the game before i can or wut. here are some of the files in the main folder names....hpl, mainsettings first start flag .............

You're searching in your documents folder, you need to locate your installation folder for steam.
By default this should be C:/ProgramFiles/Steam/SteamApps/Common/AmnesiaTheDarkDescent.
