Can't recall hearing about it before. As you already tried, make sure to check the cache integrity of the game, to make sure all files are there as they should. Then I think you can try and delete your settings, and play with default settings or even the lowest settings possible. You do this by deleting the settings file in My Documents/Penumbra/Requiem/. Then finally play the game from the last save in the previous level before trying to go to this level.
