Lantern casting shadows?

Dunno if there is a topic about this already, sorry if so, but I really want to hear more about this.

While ago I discovered in some of the config files that there was a variable that, as it said, could make the lantern's light cast shadows. However, when enabling this feature, nothing seems to happen.

Now this I find rather confusing, if this is a script limit of some sort (I understood the shadow's were scripted sort of.) then what exactly is the purpose of this variable?
