Game crashes after load

Well, I've been trying to play this game, but the same problem seems to arise after either the first or second loading screen. The screen stays black, but the ambient music keeps playing. If I can get to the title screen (seems totally random, as I've tried the same settings twice in a row and I get a different outcome) and I press "Start New Game", usually it's just black screen with none of that "My name is Daniel" stuff. But the off times it does go to that cutscene, it lags like a b**** and just crashes halfway through. I've tried every resolution and graphic setting, tried running it in different compatibility modes, I've downloaded the latest driver.
