OK, we have two issues here.

The first is your system has an integrated Intel graphics cards, which in general are not supported for Amnesia. Some have had luck, but it's hit or miss and requires a bit of "Work" to get it working. The main reason you are not getting anywhere is the due to the lack of S3TC support in the Opensource Linux drivers. (Patent issues).. there "is" a library that you can install to add that support, but I do not believe any distribution natively provides it. the library is called libtxc_dxtn.

The second, is you ALSO have an ATI card installed in your system which is MORE than capable of running Amnesia.. However X is configured to use the Intel card instead. If you can get the catalyst drivers from ATI working on your system, Amnesia will work perfectly fine. You might want to ask on the Ubunutu forums if you need more assistance in getting those setup. You'll know those are setup correctly when the glxinfo output lists the ATI card as the GL Renderer string.
