I'd say that mixing acoustic with electric would be best. Viking music these days has a taste of Death Metal woven into it but I always thought that the best way of displaying terror is through an intimidating acoustic peice.
I've about to release this soon, but the only "stumbling block" is the animations of the enemy :/
There's 30 levels ready from now on and I've made a few big changes in some levels.

It's only his third night in this house.
But what, if the nightmares aren't only the nightmares?
And did the veteran ever made his way to the Valhalla?

A Full-conversion mod to Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Some info about this mod:
-gameplay lasting: at this moment about 3 hour and 30 minutes (I keep this up to date)
-levels done so far: 31 at this moment (I keep this up to date)
19th level is the "sauna" level and chapter 1 ends there. I will make three or more chapters to this mod.
I've made a few own monsters and I've also edited amnesia's monsters.
Important for the atmosphere:
There will not be "monster music" or spawn sounds. They ruin the experience, because of that you can listen to it... when the music stops --> there's no monster. And the spawn sound... At the any random corner, you can't know what's behind of it.
At this moment only the grunt doesn't have music or spawn sound (only a couple of specific grunts have spawn sound, but not music). Brute will be unchanged, or...

Just to remind: When you play this, the terror can wait you behind the every corner.
Monsters has no music or spawning sound (except brute).
And in my opinion, ambient music is important. I use mostly amnesia's original soundtracks, but there will be my own songs too (one is in the latest trailer). So there will be very good, creepy, scary, (whatsoever you call it) atmosphere
Death metal doesn't do the atmosphere created by Amnesia justice. If you do an acoustic piece though, it can go in a tranquil area. Aside from that, neither of those really help Amnesia's atmosphere, regardless of the contents in your custom story.

I have said a long time ago and many times,
that I'm not adding any death metal or any other metal to this mod!
I've done some songs with my acoustic guitar and edited them with Audacity so that they fits in the game.
(...some people just doesn't read the posts...)
