PC well above specs; still getting EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

You have played the game, so the crash is when loading a save? Is this a Steam version?

Yes, it's a Steam version. I just wiped the old profile, made a new one, and started a new game with no problems whatsoever.

And before you ask, yes, I've verified the game integrity twice. I guess I WOULDN'T mind playing it again per se, but I made it to the Prisons over a series of months and am not sure if I want to do that again.

I'm not sure what could be the cause then, have you tried loading an earlier save? You can access saved games from the main menu.

Hmm, that's odd. I brought the old save games from the old profile into the new profile, and it worked just fine. Weird, but I guess that means it's fixed now.

There was this weird dev error on the old profiles too:
