Amnesia:Justine: I want permadeath in the Machine for Pigs.
I've just completed Amnesia: Justine, and guys, that was _scary_. Like, really, really, shaking hands and falling off the chair kind of scary.
All because of the permadeath. Amnesia: Dark Descent is kind of scary if you go forth and let it scare you, it's upon you to pretend that getting killed by the monster is something bad, because it actually is not, you respawn and the monster doesn't bother you for a while. One of the fastest ways to complete the game is by running towards the monster each time you see him, that makes him the opposite of scary.
Permadeath changes the game completely. Now you have an IRL reason to be afraid of the monster killing you, and that does wonders to the way the scariness of the game reflects on you IRL, there's a connection between your role-played feelings and your IRL feelings, and that produces some amazingly scary moments, like when I almost died because of missing the lever closing the door in the water part three times in a row because of how much my hands were shaking (and each miss increased the tension!), and then almost died IRL when I decided to look how far behind the monster was when I was running through that corridor with barrels and crates, and I remember seeing a hand of the monster TOO CLOSE and then I remember being on the other side of the door, breathing heavily.
What I'm saying: please, pretty please, make "a machine for pigs" use permadeath. Well, maybe not entirely, maybe we should have autosaves at the beginning of each chapter (which should be sufficiently long), but yeah, permadeath 4lyfe, permadeath hardcore, permadeath is the only way the horror can really be experienced properly.
Also, why I'm asking now, the nice thing about Justine is that you can run through it in about ten minutes? if you know what you're doing. So you don't lose that much time when dying, you quickly run to the place you've died and then move very carefully and slowly trying not to die. That's awesome, but that requires proper level design, making levels which require a lot of time to explore but allow running through quickly.
So you can't just add a "hard mode" to the machine for pigs, its levels must be designed with permadeath mode in mind.
Please, please, pretty please, make "a machine for pigs" as scary as Justine. Please.

But what if you have to die, like in ATDD
Trying is the first step to success.

hardly, lets say AAMFP gameplay is 5 hours long (just a wild, random guess), now imagine dying after 3 hours and having to re-do EVERYTHING from the beginning. If it would happen to me i'd be extremely annoyed, smash my keyboard and most likely not play the game again for 1 week. It won't happen.
And you can't really compare Justine to AAMFP, like you said Justine is a 15 min DLC, while AAMFP is a new, big game
Sorry but we cannot change your avatar as the new avatar you specified is too big. The maximum dimensions are 80x80 (width x height)

I've spent like 8 hours on Justine. It's 15 mins if you know what you're doing, but figuring out what you're supposed to be doing, while being scared of dying, takes a lot more time.
That's the amazing thing about Justine, that the levels are designed in a way that takes a lot of time to figure them out at first, but then you can run through pretty fast to get to the place you've died at last time.
As I said, sure, if the machine for pigs is much bigger, OK, let us have autosaves at the beginning of each chapter. So that dying never takes more than say ten minutes of your time to get back to the place where you've died. Still, dude, I tell you, permadeath, even a restricted permadeath for each unlocked chapter, it gives soooo much spice to the game; Justine has frightened me more and better than the entire A:TDD, seriously.

Permanent death would be the cruelest thing ever in a video game that is over 30 minutes of gameplay.

It does not matter where you get the game (unless your pirating it) as long as the game is the same no matter where you buy it.

Why not just start over yourself if you die? I can guarantee you this isn't going to happen (just look at their blog and some of their ideas on game design if you don't believe me), nor should it. I would go into more detail on this, but meh, I don't feel like getting into a debate right now.

If I remember correctly; Justine came out for Steam first then non-steam versions later got it. So I think getting it for Steam has it benefits.
