Originally we thought it would be a short, experimenstrual game set up in tha universe of Amnesia yo, but thechineseroom had a vision dat was bigger than dat fo' realz. As they work progressed, tha potential fo' a much pimped outer project emerged. Y'all KNOW dat shit, muthafucka! What we ended up wit is no longer what tha fuck our crazy asses had first imagined yo, but a gangbangin' straight-up fledged Amnesia game fo' realz. A different kind of Amnesia yo, but definitely not a short experiment.

^^^^^ I had a dream a few weeks ago where I was at some gaming expo, and Gabe came up on stage and just announced that there was no Half Life 3. It was just people thinking there was so hard, but Valve never confirmed it.

Woke up a little flustered.

You've gotta admit that Frictional/thechineseroom are currently coming across as poor communicators - other Indie devs aren't as 'precious' with their products. Look at the in development 'Starbound' for example - regular info comes from them and they even run AMA's (Ask Me Anything's) on Reddit, as well as posting on their forum on a regular basis.

Hell, they even have a Roadmap showing the development of the game:

http://www.playstarbound.com/roadmap/

Now that's what I call great communication. Frictional/thechineseroom - you could learn from these people. The more info you give out the better - that way your potential customers feel like they are valued and 'in the loop' and as a result are more likely to throw money your way. They'll also be far less frustrated with any delays.

While I don't wholly disagree with what you're saying, I have to say that sometimes it may very well have to do with the game at hand. Certain games are better left knowing almost nothing about up until you actually play it, especially in the story department.

Take Bioshock Infinite for example. While it had an abundance of trailers, and footage, most of it was revolving around the gameplay, and the setting which has already been confirmed. Little to no information was revealed in trailers about in more in-depth plot.

When it comes to a very likely almost completely story driven game with the story being one of its main selling points, it's very hard to advertise without spoiling something. Of course I'd say it'd be nice if some setting, or scenery footage could be released. However one could also speculate that the the story has been written so that the settings themselves are very important to the plot, and should not be revealed beyond the ones which have already been shown.
