Read the pre-menu again.
I don't get why people keep saying that. I put myself in the place of Daniel, but if it truly is a game where you can't react as you would in real life but must rather act against it, then how can I properly immerse myself in the character? Maybe Daniel is just too different from myself. Because I would do things SO differently IRL. And it reflects in how I choose to play the game.
And canned answers don't help the discussion either..."You're doing it wrong read the menu" is a silly statement, because there is no RIGHT way to play a video game...and if there is, then the game is flawed somehow because that limits the player so much that it takes away any hope for many of them to get into it.
in the phobia discussion, I'm really only afraid of a few things: Deep water, or rather, unseen things in deep water (thus the invisible water monster spooked me the first time pretty effectively), extreme heights, and bears. Yeah, bears.
I'm not afraid of the dark at all. I frequently go out into the woods at night without a light, just to hear the quietness and relax. Walking around without my lantern in the game has no negative repercussions, so I don't even worry about it...also you find like 800 tinderboxes.
