In the troubleshooting guide (http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-3754.html) it gives instructions for attempting to fix the "no sound device" error, but the instructions are specifically for Windows. Is there anything else to try on Linux that may fix this error?

I'd first try making sure you have openal library (openal soft implementation) installed on your OS and then re-run the checklibs.sh script in the game folder.

there may also be a utility in your distribution called openal-info that you can run to see if that is working.
