Which game to start with

I'm thinking about purchasing this game.
But before I do so I wish to know if I should do the Penumbra series before Amnesia the dark descent.
Or if Amnesia is more worth it than Penumbra.
I'm aware that Amnesia has custom stories.

penumbra´s story is longer to play, and more future.
but there are over 200 custom-stories to play for amnesia, and creating your own!

Just allow Frictional Games to horrify you in the order in which they intended! Penumbra series, then Amnesia. If money is an issue, then just get Amnesia.

I'd say Amnesia first, because the scares are oh so much more horrifying when you aren't used to the whole thing. If you play Penumbra first you'll get more used to the gameplay and amnesia won't be as scary. Of course it could go the other way around but I find Amnesia scarier and a better overall experience. So Amnesia first.

I agree with andyrockin123. Playing the games in the order they were developed gives an insight into how Frictional Games learned from their previous games, which I find pretty interesting.

I'm going to start with Amnesia - the dark descent.
I'll give everyone here rep for helping me make my decision.
I'd also like to conclude that I also purchased the first two penumbra games, people have been saying that the third penumbra doesn't have the horror thrill I'm seeking.

It is better to start with penumbra, because Amnesia, in short, evolved concept of Penumbra. So, if you play Amnesia first - it won't be so interesting to play Penumbra later.

I'd start with Amnesia - Penumbra feels a bit rough around the edges in comparison.

Penumbra is better than Amnesia and I would recommend to everyone to begin with Penumbra.
When you know Penumbra, you will also understand how Amnesia works and it would be a better experience.
