In Black Plague I am stuck at the lowest possible texture but I am at the highest in Overture and I can not seem to use the same texture level I use in Overture whats the problem.

Not sure what you mean. Can't you use texture quality higher than low? What do you mean by stuck?

MAybe texture is wrong I not good at computers and the computer I am on I did not install the game to. I meant the 640 X 343 type thing I was at the highest in Penumbra but I seem to be stuck at the lowest in Overture by stuck I mean that when I restart so that the settings take effect there is this thing saying you can't do that and we will put you at the lowest instead also there appear to be some strange things that happen on screen but they are difficult to describe save that they do not look normal.

jamhaw:
What is your graphic card?

It seems like you mean that Shader quality is forced to low. This only happens when your card is very old or if you have old drivers. Try installing new drivers for your graphics card and see if that helps.

Well I don't know I got this computer in December and was told I have the best anyway I am on the right computer know and it says this (could not set dispaly mode 640 x something I can't remember used instead)

p.s. Every time I put in the disk it boots up the install wizard the game still works but I am curious if I may have just installed the game wrong.

You on windows? to the best of my knowledge, XP anyway (maybe older), you can go to the control panel over to system, then I believe device mananger. There should be a list of what hardware you have, and the brand names (possibly some info about it). it should be near the top; the graphic card. forgot what they called it. drivers, or something drivers I think.
that should tell you if it's like an ATI or NVIDIA.

Or maybe your graphic card doesn't support the highest resolution in the game. Try the one below the highest or try to raise it gradually.

you have several degrees, being the most common
(It's the number of pixels in the screen: Width x Height)
640x400
640x480
800x600
1024x768
1248x960
1248x1024
(There are many more not listed here)

I once had a graphics card that, despite it's quality, didn't support anything above 800x600, and some error like that one appeared whenever I tryed to play at 1024x768 or higher.

But try something with the shaders like Thomas said and the latest drivers. That may be the problem/solution after all.
