![[Image: 1KHR9.png]](http://i.imgur.com/1KHR9.png) . . . Okay, let me help you understand the difference between shock, and genuine fucking fear.

Shock
- A natural reaction to anything unexpected or sudden
- Something that is inevitable in either of those cases

Fear
- A mental stimulant brought on by small outside sources, which then echoes to a million waves of sadistic thoughts that slowly eat away at the sanity
- In it's best; an addictive urge one must experience again and again
- In it's worst; not even worth the effort of critiquing

Games get less scary when you are the developer.I asked FG whether Amensia scares themselves, whether they are scared by their own game. But never got an answer. But I think, if you are developing a custom story or a complete game, you get not scared so much because you always know what happen.
For a horror game it's so important to play blind, without any knowledge. And that's a shame for the developers; they can't really enjoy their own games. One of the best of all time!
I also think, that Amensia, or any game of FG needs some effects of Silent Hill.
A game like Silent Hill, but with FG's physics engine, first person gameplay and without a combat would be really excellent!

I've noticed that everybody here seems to be giving the absolute worst advice for instilling fear.

Fear is a natural reaction based on a perceived threat - when you're a dev, you know literally everything that's going to happen, so it's not scary. Simple as that.

Instead of thinking "HOLY SHIT THERE IS A TERRIFYING MONSTER COMING TO KILL ME" you think "I SPENT A MONTH MODELING AND ANIMATING THIS THING AND NOW IT'S ACTUALLY KILLING ME IN GAME, THIS IS SO FUCKING AWESOME".

Of course it won't keep on being scary when you know what is going to happen, and how everything works.Try playing other good mods! Those are still scaring me because everything is new to me. I don't know what the developer had in mind..

If you think about it it's a little sad that the dev works so hard to create a good gameplay experience, and they're the ones enjoying the finished product the least in the very end

It doesn't matter how many custom stories you make. The incredible atmosphere FG managed to create is just terrifying. The ambience, the details... That's what makes the game scary. Apart from the most important thing: a good story and a character that you can connect to.
