Who are your favorite authors and Why?

I want to know and understand who it is that you lot may admire, for what reasons and perhaps, how they might have inspired you. You may list examples of particular publications, quote from their writing(letters, journals, biographies, etc.), the certain psychological aspects fulfilled through their meaning, or your meaning. Any and all is appreciated. I would like to remind everyone(and Kman) that this is a serious thread, so keep it mature. As much as I appreciate the expression of speech I wish to remind you that I have the power invested in me, with it it is my right to ask that the thread be closed if participants fail to follow basic manner-taking procedures.

If I'm to be totally honest, I don't really read that much in my free time. This mainly has to do with the fact that we had to read a book from an assigned category (which was incredibly boring 80% of the time I might add) every month at my old school, and because I procrastinate on everything I would always end up reading the whole thing the day before it was due, and that process went on for a good few years... Kind of killed any enjoyment in it for me. But I dunno, I read the Shinning and Farhenheight 451 earlier this year, and they were both pretty damn good. I don't really have one favorite author though.

My favourite authors? Hmm, hard to say, I have a few to choose from. But if I have to pick it'd propably be:
Terry Pratchett - I love his style in his books, the characters and all the parody of other books and stories. I've been a great fan of his books for many years.
Nick Perumov - A very good author with a disturbing yet interesting way of writing (his books can be very brutal). I'm a huge fan of his Keeper Of The Swords series and he did a great job writing Elven Blade which is the first book in his series Ring Of Darkness, the books take place in Middle-earth long after Tolkiens Lord Of The Rings. I haven't read the other two books in that series yet though.
J.R.R. Tolkien - What's not to love about Lord Of The Rings? I have also read the book that was put toghether by his son; Unfinished Tales Of Númenor And Middle-earth. It had a great atmosphere and feeling to the stories, it's a shame he (J.R.R. Tolkien) didn't finish many of them.

Have you read anything by Stephen Lawhead? His fantasy writings brought me back to the genre; his work is quite diverse too - from Celtic to Old English, there's plenty to look through. I highly suggest Hood if you're in the mood for something repulsively dark.

No, I have not heard of him. I'll definetly check out his book. Thank you, it's allways fun with new authors

I don't read that much unfortunately. The only thing I really am comfortable doing at the moment is reading short stories by H.P. Lovecraft (which is all I've read for the past year or so, extracurricular I mean). But that's only because I have such a huge backlog of games and movies. When I have nothing to do I can go through books quite easily, I actually have a decent collection of them. My favorite book is as always Moby-Dick.

I read a lot, but if I were to list an author, it would be Cassandra Clare "Mortal Instruments Series".

The Mortal Instruments is pretty much about a group of people named Shadow Hunters have to slay demons and stop this guy named Valentine. The story has a love-story aspect to it, but it's not too big of an aspect, and it really adds to the story.

The books are a 6-parter series, with the 6th book in production. The books goes as follows: City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and the unreleased part, City of Heavenly Fire

There is ALSO a movie being made for City of Bones, set to be released in Summer of 2013.

So yeah. Cassandra Clare.

I honestly wish I had the patience to read. The only times I read a book was for school, and most of them are not interesting, which is why I think most kids don't read nowadays. They feed us the more confusing, poorly plotted stories, and we think "Are they ALL like this?" It kind of sucks, honestly. Though there were some good ones out of the few that I read

Mitch Albom does good work. I've read For One More Day and I think I finished it before the whole class was even half way through =P It was a fantastic story.

I don't remember the other author but the book was titled "I am the Messenger". That was another book I finished before the class got through it. That one was especially good because it was written in modern language, and had similar actions and reactions that happen in a teenager's life, which helps us relate.

There are some good books out there, and I wish I had the patience to sit down and read more of them. But once I start going through pages, my brain starts remembering all different projects and things I have to do. I started reading my first Stephen King book "Desperation" and I just... Stopped by the second chapter. Never read anything after that. =\ That guy can write some insane imagery though, holy nuts...
