My girlfriend and I skipped Valentine's this year. We're dealing with some shit right now including having to move back in with my parents because we got kicked out of our apartment coupled with vet bills for our cat developing a major heart disease - we were not in a Valentiney mood. Not like Valentine's matters anyway, I'd rather do something nice for my girl because I want to instead of being coerced into it by some arbitrary date.

There is no such thing as "true love" anyways. What's my proof? A normal human being can only conceivably love around 50% of the world. On top of that, looks play an integral role in deciding upon a mate. On top of that, eligible partners are usually the same age as yourself or typically ±5 years. On top of that, chances are your partner will be from the same city, country or at least continent as you. So with all criteria considered, the pool of eligible partners amounts to maybe (assuming opposite sex, age plus minus 5 and living in the same city) around 160 people. On average 160 eligible people in each city that you can conceivably love. The number is even less for homosexuals, maybe around 10% at best. So tell me, how true is that?

BTW, don't take my figures too seriously, they are wildly inaccurate, but illustrate a point that love is a man-made concept.

Um... no. My point was:

How can love exist when it is biologically impossible for you to love 50% of the human population? Shouldn't that clue you in that love is an illusion? Or is the "emotional connection" you have to that one girl just so powerful that it transcends gender? I don't think so.

Furthermore, I wouldn't even consider being in a relationship with someone that has no face, or an amputee, or someone that isn't a human being. Tell me: What are the chances of every single case of so-called love being between the same species and between the same sexual persuasion? If you stop taking it for granted, you will conclude that the chances are almost impossibly low. How can it be a coincidence that love is entirely in sync with our natural urges?

What, is love just a by-product of physical relations? Then how the hell can it be love?

EDIT: Just to be clear, I am not saying that it's impossible to have a strong affection for other people, but that is it. "True love" as it's portrayed in the media just doesn't exist. It makes no sense at all, especially when you consider that the divorce rates are so high.
