I owned a NES and I own a Wii because Wii is fun for parties (and absolutely nothing else) so it gives me an excuse to throw parties and socialize. Drunk gaming is hilarious, drunk gaming where you have to make sure you don't throw pieces of hardware at your tv or your lamps is even better.

I wanted a WII when they first came out, I must have only been around 11 or so. Got it, super excited. Used it for about a week and never used it ever again. Pile of shit IMO. Doesn't fit my criteria I guess.

Have to agree with Wooderson here. The only reason I played it any later than the first few weeks, it was to play Super Smash Brothers Brawl or Zelda: Twilight Princess. I haven't touched it in a LOOOOONG time. Over a year or two, maybe more. And the reason I'm kind of excited for the Steambox is that it's running with Steam (obviously), so I can still play all my favorite games I got on there from the comfort of the couch. And again, as awesome as Valve is, they give people the opportunity to upgrade and take apart their Steambox as they please. Gabe is a great Role Model =]
I look forward to it. The only thing I hope for is possibly that Valve opens the Steambox up to console games somehow. I don't see a CD/DVD drive on the models, so I'm confused if everything must be bought and received online. Not that that's been a problem before, but if I wanted to watch a movie on a DVD, it'd be convenient if it could run it.

Like I said, I use it at parties. Rayman Origins and New Super Mario Brothers multiplayer, that's pretty fun.

For everything else, especially solo gaming, it sucks the big one.

beleive it or not, i own a fair few consoles...yes, i started on PC, an IBM with a 486 processor back When they were top of the line, and as you know, i am a PC elitist, ..but.. i am also more of a Gameplay elitist than i am a PC elitist, if a game had the sort of gameplay i like, and Wasnt on PC, i used to go for the consoles of the past, but ive tailed off these days thanks to all this DLC and DRM malarky on those systems.

ive collected, console wise, over the years, a NES, a SNES, An MSX! a Panasonic 3do, a Mastersystem II, a Gensis (megadrive in the uK) a saturn, an N64 (greatest console ever made.. couple of its games, such as GE64, even changed PC gaming for the better with there influence) a ps1, a ps2, a gamecube, a dreamcast, an original xbox, and a 360 (for forza motosports, i only have two games on it, Forza Motorsports 2 and Forza Motorsports 3, in "complete" forms, all the DLC on the disk, sadly MS arent doing one for Forza 4, so, sod them, i only purchase "complete" versions of games as i refuste to buy DLC as i refuse to be Fleeced) i used to have a ps3, but it packed up after 12 months and seeing as i only had GT5-Proloque on it,.. i decided not to bether replacing it. im pretty agnry at ps3 packing in after only 12 months... my NES is a good 20 years old, and it Still works as good as it did when new.

but PC will always be my spiritual gaming home, ive even had this one recently Re-jigged from duality OS to Triple OS, it now has 7, Xp and win-95 with ORIGINAL DOS. so i can play my entire physical collection of pC Games, from Wolf 3d (on floppy disk!, so ive had a floppy drive fitted) all the way to SSIII BFE... thats a lot of games, beleive me, and i still have the boxes & manuals!

As for steam box, well, ill take a look at it, im quite a fan of Gabe Newell and Valve, he is something of a gameplay elitist too, and he knows a thing or 2 about bang for buck, and valve supports the indie industry via steam, sure, steambox may be a console, but, if it allows Proper, Single Player (Including Single Player Only games), PC gaming with a keyboard and mouse, and the DRM doesnt require "always on" and allows for "game trading", ,thus allowing proper Pc games with fair protection rules, to be played in the warmth of the living room on a massive TV.... i may even put my PC bias to one side... anyone imagine it, a GOG.com upgrade of say, Duke 3d on a 100 inch plasma? sighn me up!

@ Scraper, i posted this before, but, i will re-iterate, the more people know what is going on, the better.

It has been confirmed at Arstechnica, The Escapist, Kotaku, and even IGN, by a Leak in the industry that You cannot play used games On PS4 or xbox720, nor can you rent games for them, As you will need a single use DRM passcode for the game to even work at all, they will only be supplied with brand new full price purchases, and according to current information from the leak, new ones will NOT be available to purchase online, loose the code, and the game will never work again, so you will have to buy a new copy to get a new code.

according to a leak on Arstechnica, games will be priced between $60-$100.

720 will require you to pay to play online as with 360, PS4 will also probably demand the same, unlike PS3, seeing as the PS4 uses the exact same DRM system as 720. A DRM system that has been co developed By Electronic Arts.

To make matters worse, it has been confirmed by the leak that the consoles both use ALWAYS ON DRM, wich means, as you have to pay to use the internet on them, well, you can quess what that will cost a month! if it even works half the time, as i said, the DRM programme has been developed by Electronic Arts, who are Not the last word in production Quality at the moment. To make matters worse, should your internet go down, thats it, your game collection is kaput until the internet connection is restored!

there are also Reports on Kotaku, that the Majority of Next Gen games will also contain, NO single player mode and will be 100% social Multiplayer based, witch will included the use of Iphone apps, wich, again, will need to be paid for with monthly subscription fees.

PS4 And 720 also, and this has been confrmed, have NO backwards compatabilty.

it has also been leaked that you also need to PAY with micro-transactions for patches to fix bugs and glitches in the games on PS4 and 720. not good as the average "AAA game" needs patching ten times in its first month because its rushed out.

beleive me, these consoles are designed with only one purpose in mind, to Fleece anyone stupid enough to purchase them for every last cent. because face it, to willingly allow yourself to be Fleeced, is pure, unquestioble, Intellectual Stuntification to a Moronic Degree.

for the good of the games industry, boycott these consoles, or its just going to become some American megacorps fleecing pit., dont allow Sony and Microsoft to become a real life OCP... dont purchase the systems until they drop the unfair and expensive DRM and Pay for Patches ideas completly, along with ruddy DLC! or gaming will end up as the preserve of only those rich enough and stupid enough to purchase all the DLC, all the patches, and pay the internet fees. the WRONG kind of elitism!

Wow is it really that bad? Well, I've already decided some time ago that I will not buy a next gen console. I've been a console gamer my whole life. My parents never wanted (and didn't really have the money) to buy a strong computer but they bought me a xbox and I stuck to it for years, after that I bought my 360 which I've been playing since. But now Microsoft and Sony just piss me off. The console war is utter bullshit, if not the definition of bullshit. I hate all "Exclusive content" for each console. How they buy studios, services and tech to make sure that it'll only be avaliable on their console. It's a really ugly thing to do and it only hurts us consumers. If there would be some fair play between them that actually benefitted me as a consumer I might have been excited about the PS4 and maby even bought it. But since that isn't the case I'm saving to buy a good, reliable computer, something I've realised I should have done long ago.

well, i didnt know that until now, it appears that the sites who posted those leaks were trolling.

i will now light a fire under there arses.

however, i am still supicious, i would not put it past sony to change there minds and install the same systems as those mentioned in the leaks in order to earn more money. they are a megacorp after all.

still, the issue still stands with 720, it does commit all the crimes listed.

However, i will STILL be boycotting the Ps4. but now only for personal reasons due to my issues with online, multiplayer, and the fact the next generation of games, as confirmed by there publishers, will be biased 100% towards it, wich means i will not be able to mentally cope with them. but i will not be boycotting over former, misisformed business reasons. that is now only true for X720

i will now BASH those sites that have misinformed about PS4.

ok, i will hang fire for now, but, as stated, i will not be suprised, given that microsoft are american and have a proven track record in fleecing people with the 360 if those articles are true, but i will give them chance, my boycott on next generation mainstream gaming, incuding on PC, will remain however, for reasons stated as to the fact i wont be able to cope with next gen games due to the focus on multiplayer, and will try to bring a disability descrimination case on the game publishers, but i will hold fire on bussiness boycott until Microsoft has revealed the truth of x720.

sorry for making myself appear a total twonk. i promise you, i WILL hold those sites to task for besmirching sony's image.
