It's one of the best examples of a game telling story through gameplay ever, not once do you have to stop to read a note or watch a cut scene (or you're at least still in control during all of them), it has zero time jumps, and yet the story is still pretty complex and well thought out. Literally the entire story is told to you organically without them ever having to pull you out of the experience to give you an info dump. On top of that the gameplay is damn near perfect, as is the pacing. Yes the characters could have been developed better, but ignoring all of that cause of one issue is dumb.

Finding something overrated =/= disliking it.

I didn't care at all for HL1 though, rather boring, mechanically horrid, it was "good for its time", but is just laughable now. HL2 was much better, but still gets WAY too much love.
