Can't you specify what card to use in the nvidia or power settings control panel?

If he indeed has Nvidia Optimus there is a right click menu at every executable where you can select whether you want to run it with the embedded or the dedicated graphics card. A more permanent solution is of course the nvidia control panel as Jens mentioned.
