HELP! Custom lantern model fix

Hello Smile

I'm making a FC, and I found a custom lantern that would be perfect for the new game mechanic that I will use.
The only problem with it, is that when the player looks to the left, he/she can see through the arms.

Since I don't have any experience in modelling, I tried to contact the person who made it, without any success >.< . So I would like to ask someone to fix it and post it here. Big Grin

You can find the lantern here:

There is no problem with the lantern, every file is extracted and working. It's just an annoying bug.

For the second image, it's the same with the Vanilla lantern, if you turn really fast either side you will see the end of the arm. Although this one is made more at a 90 degree angle, I think the Vanilla was closer to a 45 degree angle so you really had to turn fast and hard to notice it. They also turned down the transparency or something near the end so it merged better instead of being sharply coming to an end.

RE: HELP! Custom lantern model fix

I guess you'll have to edit the idle, holster and draw animations, in a 3D program like Maya. Just move the highest joint in the hierarchy a bit down and towards the camera and make the arm further stretched out so the player can't see the shoulder ingame anymore. Alternatively you could also change the mesh so it contains more of the shoulder but that would probably be more effort.

I had the same thing when I made the custom flashlight+animations for Kreekakon's Custom Story - only that the hand was too far outside of the screen instead of too far inside and thus not visible at all. It also wasn't possible to simply move it in the model editor since it was getting all its translations and rotations from the animation. Best approach was to set up a camera in Maya that is very close to the ingame camera in terms of FOV, position and render resolution (using the original arm and screenshots as reference). With film gate mask activated you see a pretty good aproximation of what the arm will look like in game.
Only thing is that it's dependent on your screen resolution: On widescreen you'll see more of the arm than on a non-widescreen format...and I'm not 100% sure how the game handles this. (FOV changes? Camera position moves a bit? Both stay the same but you see less at the top of the screen? Or a combination of all?)
