Proof or it's a lie.
It has been confirmed in an interview. I tried searching for it but couldn't find it.

There are some handy screenshots of this object from the first discussion thread (and another screenshot a few posts down where someone traced the outline of whatever it is):

Proof of the "finding your missing children" part? Here's where it was discovered:

I don't think it's that unreasonable to believe Oswald's children died in Mexico. The title of the game is still 'Amnesia', so it could be possible that Oswald forgot his children were even dead. When he wakes up, all he can remember is that his children are in trouble, and they seem to be missing, which is why he goes out looking for them.

Also, in one of these screenshots there is something walking between two buildings

Perhaps the pig monster gets caught in the hook system thingy? Maybe that's why we can hear that rattling noise and pig squealing.

I don't know if I'm super late with this, but I noticed that the wiki page has some new images added.
I find the image with the photos on the wall interesting. Is that a window or a mirror? It looks kinda like a mirror but I guess then you would be able to see the character which is very unlikely.

It is a mirror, but maybe you just won't get a look on the other side. Nothing new here tho.
