AMFP vs TDD = 71 - 85 = -14 / 5.6 - 8.7 = -3.1
AMFP vs Outlast = 71 - 80 = -9 / 5.6 - 8.6 = - 3.0

Metacritic review (all the world) = TDD > Outlast > AMFP
Users review (all the world) = TDD > Outlast > AMFP

RE: Opinions on how TCR & FG are dealing with AAMFP criticism

Like I said before:

Quote:Remember, any sort of user, or review based scores, or average scores are for consideration only. What matters most is how you personally feel about the game, and you shouldn't have to feel any bad if your opinion is different from the general one.

Scores aren't everything. At most it is how the majority of the public think of the game. No matter how big it is though it will never be worth more than your own opinion.

All the world? No it isn't, it's an aggregate opinion of 46 (as of the date of this post) individuals. Have you seen how many reviews have been released for AAMFP? Check the bottom of the Info Portal to see for yourself - it's a hell of a lot more than 46. And yes, the reviews listed there are all "professional" ones, not user reviews, and the list is comprised only of the reviews I happened to find myself; there are probably lots more I haven't found yet.

MetaCritic isn't representative of anything when it draws from such a small data set, even if you want to form your opinions on the basis of what someone else thinks.

Blue Machine, are you now going to show us Amnesia vs all games referenced on Metacritics?

The scores there reflect only the average marks for games. It does not give you the extremes. If you look a bit more carefully, you will see that the opinions on AMFP are very divided, and that there is no general consensus, contrary to Outlast where there is one.

It does prove that AMFP is not as well regarded overall, I'm not one to use argumentum ad populum, but the evidence does stand to show that at the very least.

Perhaps, if you restrict yourself to just going by MetaCritic; there are far more professional reviews online than those listed on MetaCritic.

These are the scores currently listed in the Info Portal. I suck a maths so if someone could figure out what the mean score would be from all of these that would at least provide a more complete picture of the situation.

One of the reviews gave it an A and another gave it a B+, so I'm not sure how that would translate into a percentage haha.

I used horizontal rules to divide the scores into blocks of 10.

And? So people expected different things because of x and y (which I won't get into because this discussion is already tiresome) and a massive amount of them are having fits.

I've read the comments from people here and on websites and the only way the game would have gotten a better overall reaction was if they had done the same things as from TDD and called it a day. Sorry but that's the truth, call me ignorant and arrogant. That's not to say that there aren't people who didn't like it for what it was but just that there were a lot of more people that hated because of what it was not.

Quick example: I knew what the Dead Space series offered (I played through the Penumbras and A:TDD before I got to DS). I knew it was atmospheric and gory but with a focus on action and action-y gameplay. I loved all three. Want to know why? Cause I enjoyed the games for what they were. If I had played them expecting (somehow) another Black Plague i'd have been furious. But I didn't cause, well, yeah.

Another example: I bought RE6. I knew that ever since RE4 the games had taken an even MORE action-y focus. So i played it and enjoyed it for what it was, ie, a very clunky designed game that was ok but had some gameplay mechanics that could be polished and used to make another RE2. It's nowhere near my favorite game (6.75 or 7.0 out of 10 for me), it's such a lost opportunity that it's almost depressing but I didn't hate/dislike it because it wasn't RE2 (or the game I want them to make which i'll make a topic about...someday) but rather judged it on its own.

ANOTHER example: I played TF2 and didn't enjoy it much. I didn't enjoy it because of what it WAS, not because of what it was not.

So I ask again, and? Does linking the opinions of others do anything really? I have never linked anyone's opinions, much less the conglomerate of opinions that is metacritic (the same place that shows how hilariously overrated a few games are), to back my opinion. I just stated my opinion as it was and left it there. Why? Cause I don't rely nor give the same level of credit and attention a lot of people give to other people's opinions.

But yeah, the image/reaction does answer a lot of questions after analyzing a few of the reviews and user ''reviews'' but not in the way the poster of those images intended.

@Paddy
Err, if I'm correct, the mean score for all these 90 reviews is somewhere around 7.3 /10.
