Solved: 10 Years, 10 Months ago Game switches between 60 and 30 fps

I'm recording the game with Fraps for YouTube, and occasionalaly it'll drop down from 60 frames to 30 for a few seconds before springing back up to 60. I have an FPS meter on the Fraps app for my G13, and it's always locked at either 60 or 30. (I mean, it's usually 60; the 30 fps bursts only last about 10 seconds, and occur once every ~20 minutes.)

I'm done recording for the night, (giving my nerves a rest), but I had an idea for tomorrow. I capture with 30fps in Fraps, so I'll try it at 60 and see if that stops the issue. Kind of hoping that's not the issuethough. Capturing at 60 fps would bloat the file sizes a lot, and there's no sense in that if YouTube is only 24 fps.

Does anyone know what could be causing it?

Penumbra: Overture was the same. When I was recording, my FPS was very low. Maybe OpenGL system cause this. Or your system isn't strong enough. What happens when you recording other games?

It's not that I'm struggling to get good fps, it's that the game intermittently locks me at 30 and I don't know why. I should have mentioned that I have a nice rig and performance "shouldn't" be an issue:

i7-4770k
Asus Sabertooth Z87 motherboard
PNY GTX 560ti
2x8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM

Edit: And to answer your other question, yes, I have seen this before somewhere. I can't for the life of me remember where though. I know I never found a fix for it.

Do you have Adaptive Vsync enabled?

I do not, I turned that off because it was causing screen tearing. (Which IS fixed now. Thanks, Frictional people.)

Another thing about the frames briefly locking at 30, Skullgirls was doing it after I started this thread, and it's never done that before. I now doubt it's an issue with MFP, but if someone knows why this happens, I'd really appreciate your input.

Edited for clarity.

The vsync works like that, if it can't keep up above 60, it drops to 30. With the adaptive vsync it adds in frames when it can't keep above 60 to allow for more than 30.

Interesting. So, I could "theoretically" make this go away by upgrading to, say, a 660ti?

Polycount can also effect the framerate depending which way you are facing on what level. Film in 1280x720, should improve the performance quite a chunk.
