Amnesia won't start

I've played the game for a couple hours already, but now the game won't even start and my PC config hasn't changed.

PC specs are:
-AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
-HD 4850 512Mb
-4Gb DDR3 1333Mhz
-Windows 8.1 Pro

The launcher doesn't recognize my gpu anymore, it only says:
"Video device: GDI Generic"

As I try to start the game, it immediately crashes and won't even give any error codes or what so ever. :(

This might be too simple a solution, but have you tried reinstalling your GPU drivers? Windows Update might have silently overwritten them and botched the process, or they might have simply become corrupt through other means. Worth a try, at least.

I noticed you're using Windows 8.1 - has the game worked at all since the 8.1 update? A lot of people are reporting difficulties getting their games to run after updating to 8.1.

That the game crashes without errors is strange. Can you attach your hpl.log file? You can find it here:

\My Documents\Amnesia\Pig\

Hopefully it will contain some clues as to what's going on!

I reinstalled the gpu drivers just before I wrote this post, didn't help. :/
And as for Windows 8.1, I installed it yesterday as an update over my existing Windows 8 installation, and both Amnesia: TDD and AMFP ran smoothly on it, but not on W8.1..

You have no graphics card drivers installed or the OpenGL part of them is corrupted. Most probably due to Windows 8.1 installation reinstalling your AMD drivers with generic ones with no OpenGL support. Go to amd.com and download the latest drivers for Windows 7 since there is no windows 8 support for older cards such as yours.

Finally got it working, the problem was with the gpu drivers afterall.

I used these instructions and installed the drivers that are mentioned in the topic. Hope this helps others who are experiencing same difficulties with legacy gpu's.
