Anyway - Pewdiepie's fandom to me has died down significantly. While he may be powerful for his subscriptions, nobody around me talks about him, nor his videos anymore. That may be different in your community, and that is fine, but I feel his fanbase is either declining or reaching its peak.

That is, based entirely on my personal experiences and justifications of this particular topic.

A biased edit:
I rather watch Markiplier over PDP in any game because he takes the immersion seriously in most cases. While PDP could be scared and/or rather terrified in some cases of the games he plays, Mark seems genuinely afraid; submerged in his immersion, instinct and response to various forms of gameplay, story content and how something works.

+ he doesn't joke about rape, penises, after death fetishes, etc. Rape especially; pretty heavy topic on me because I am mature enough to understand the long term effects of unnecessary sexual conflict.

I don't know about Markiplier being better than anyone (Not that he isn't, I'm just trying to remain indifferent about some things)
I think it's just that Pewdiepie tends to repeat similar jokes quite a lot, which may make it seem like he's getting worse, when in reality you're just not entertained by those kinds of jokes anymore
Honestly I don't want to say any Youtube entertainer is better than any other, that would just cause unnecessary arguments
