Need music and/or atmospherics? I'll do you some music and/or atmospherics.

And now here's a sentence with the word "SOMA" in it so I don't get shouted at.

Re-using assets one thing, re-using ideas is... ehh. A little bit too cheap with brand new game from FG.

re-using ideas is what this entire industry is about, nothing is original anymore and games development is an iterative process.

Penumbra and Amnesia looked moderately different in terms of gameplay to me, even though the latter was quick product based of.

In case with SOMA we have few years of dedication. Re-using ideas from previous FG games would be rather... sad. Doubt that's the case and your general statement does not really apply here.

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread

I must confess, when I saw the first SOMA gameplay teaser where the protagonist awakes in an unknown environment, my first thought was "Wow, this looks and feels exactly like Amnesia". As we know, that scene was created specifically for the teaser so it isn't directly from the game, yet I was a bit disappointed because I was hoping for some more substantial evolution of the game mechanics and overall look and feel. On the other hand, it's great they are not abandoning all the stuff that their first games became famous for (physics, interaction model, focus on storytelling), and from later teasers we have seen they do have changed quite a bit in SOMA (e.g. removal of inventory).

I disagree, other than the combat and setting Amnesia and Penumbra are not very different games.

...and when compared to Black Plague and Requiem it's only the setting.

anyone know how many people work in frictional games? (Specifically in soma), I do not understand why take so long to give us a release date. Waiting is killing me.

I remember that Amnesia The Dark Descent, FG revealed the release date on February 2010 and was released on September.
