I have been distancing as much as I can on news about this Super Secret Project (SOMA) and I wish to know just a few things. I understand that this is connected or otherwise being worked on the HPL3 Engine so:
Have they mentioned the game mechanics being similar to that of Penumbra/Amnesia games?
Judging by the teaser, will this also be sort of Horror Sci-Fi as the genre, similar to Penumbra?
Is TheChineseRoom or any other company affiliated with the production in any way shape or form such as game design or scripting along with FrictionalGames or is FG working on this alone?
I understand that the latest teaser was very recently released and not much is known yet but has there been any information on the couple of questions listed above? Thanks.
Also, my SOMA prediction:
Simulation Operating Machine Apparatus
1. No.
2. Horror with sci-fi setting. Nothing particular known about the genre.
3. The developer is Frictional Games team. I assume they outsourced some material, like that teaser, but that is. TCR busy with their own project.
4. There was no official statements or any interviews yet. Great thanks for the reply. Can't wait for more news to start rolling up, have something else to look forward to now

RE: SOMA Discussion Thread
Interesting. According to the Javascript, only refreshing the page updates your Recovering bar. All the floating parameters are defined in the last packer statically, instead of being called up from various places. I wonder why they'd require us to reload when it did it automatically earlier... I guess because of the morons opening the page so many times, probably idling some, etc, using their own auto-refresh against them...

Well, one can only hope. It hasn't yet been told that both platforms are going to be supported, though I do think it's highly probable it will be on PC.

RE: SOMA Discussion Thread
Here's a polite request to Jens: please can put us out of our 'misery' and tell us if there is definitely a PC version on the way and if this will be released before (or at the same time) as any console versions?
This information may shut us up a little. :-)

RE: SOMA Discussion Thread
I don't play a lot of games, but I do support FG and have played both TDD and AMFP and loved both. I've not played Penumbra, but if this game comes out for PC I'd love to give it a shot!
The trailer I just watched the other night, and it freaked me out. When she says, 'Great. I think it just died on me,' I was half-expecting the long wire behind the computer-like object to reach around and kill her. However, I'm glad that didn't happen, and really found the ending interesting.

Source?
So far, the only platform that has even been hinted at is the PS4. There's been absolutely no mention of PC, and no one from Frictional has come forward and denied the claims of it being a PS4 exclusive. So, until we get official confirmation, it's best not to make assumptions.
Sony has been doing their best to get as many indie games as exclusives as possible, and they already snapped up Everybody's Gone to the Rapture from The Chinese Room, which everyone was certain was going to be a PC game.
While I obviously hope it'll be on PC, I've seen too many devs lured in by bags of Sony/Microsoft cash who have abandoned PC, or at the very least made PC a secondary concern.

RE: SOMA Discussion Thread
The thing is, Sony likes to brag, that's why we didn't get any PC confirmation, it goes without saying.
