black plague, barrel won't light!

This is a bug I've found, any help would be appreciated! (I have steam version of game if that helps)

In Penumbra: Black Plague at the outside portion of the game there is a door which is covered in snow. There are some barrels which you are supposed to put a piece of cloth in and then put next to the door. You are then supposed to light the piece of cloth which is inside the barrel and it will presumably explode, gaining you entry.

The problem is, when I use the lighter or the "mini blowtorch" on the cloth it just tells me that the cloth needs to be prepared prepared... but it's already in the barrel!!! I've tried everything and I can't seem to get the darn thing to light. I'm suspecting that this is a bug. Any thoughts?

You have forgotten to do one more thing with the cloth.

Wow, do I feel silly for blaming my inability to think on a bug! Thanks so much for the tip, I am thoroughly enjoying the game!
