Known Issues with the Level Editor

Thought we could have compilation of all known issues with the level editor to save people time in thinking "is this happening for everyone else?" Will continue to update as I find more things, but feel free to let me know what's going on on your end as well.

Crashes
  • Creating a new Terrain when you already have one very often results in a crash

Other Issues
  • Fog brightness reverts back to the default value of 1 every time you reload your map, causing you to have to manually edit it each time.
  • Skybox brightness has this issue occasionally as well.
  • Entities sometimes show up as completely black in the editor but look fine in-game.

  • Textures on terrain are not accurately displayed in the editor (they can be blurrier or clearer in-game)

RE: Known Issues with the Level Editor

To answer your 4th bullet... "Entities sometimes show up as completely black in the editor but look fine in-game."

While the object is selected...

In the properties at the right, click "Entity". Open the tab "Appearance" (It might appear as red), change the ColoMul property from black to "White".

(1) Can someone explain what the "Combos" (Ctrl + 7) tab is for? It's the second from the bottom.

The properties are constantly flashing, and anything I use from here crashes the Editor.

(2) Does anyone else see all the thumbnails for objects showing the lowest texture quality? It's sometimes hard to figure out what they are until I try it out.

The textures on the thumbnail are extremely low quality for me as well. I assumed it was like that on purpose to expedite load speeds.

RE: Known Issues with the Level Editor

I tried opening the level editor and it just comes up with a black screen. I've had this problem with hpl2 but don't remember how I fixed it.

(It works now..)

RE: Known Issues with the Level Editor

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that every Entity "ColorMul"s property is set to black, is a bug. Things like the pink-blocking box are coming up invisible until I change it to white, so they are visible.

Changing it for every Entity... is just... so... annoying!

So I open the SomaDev.bat and it doesn't respond and crash. So I try to open it up again only to find it's not in the redist folder anymore.. It's gone..? And I don't have a depth.exe either..

You can make your own .bat file (assuming you are on Windows)

Make a plain text file, type Soma.exe -user Dev -cfg config/main_init_dev.cfg and save as SomaDev.bat in the SOMA directory, next to Soma.exe. That should be it.

RE: Known Issues with the Level Editor

In the Level Editor...

If you turn off "Select Object Type" > "All" so you can't select anything.

If you open a new map, it revert back to being able to select anything. But the box doesn't update with a check-mark, you have to toggle it on & off again.

RE: Known Issues with the Level Editor

I had some issues regarding the level editor crashing on startup with Windows 10, although the other editors seems fine. Launching the level editor in Windows 7 compatibility mode is a fix that works.

Just putting this out there if anyone are experiencing the same issues.
