Favourite section of the game? *SPOILERS*

Which area did you like best?

Option "Tau" includes places like Phi and the whole last stretch of the game.

RE: Favourite section of the game? *SPOILERS*

This is super tough.

I think I gave the edge to Omicron

That environment was just set up and executed so perfectly in terms of making me super scared despite there being almost no real threats in it. First you hear it is under quarantine, so you're wondering why. Then as soon as you step inside you're greeted with grisly headless corpses and some people melded to machinery. Then you've got Ross scaring the crap out of you while the computers are all giving you strange messages. And you go about undoing the quarantine making you scared of what you may be unleashing. Plus the sounds, lighting and layout of the place was so haunting.

The Abyss was my close second for obvious reasons. Followed by Theta.

RE: Favourite section of the game? *SPOILERS*

As much as it dragged on towards the end, I have to say Theta nailed its atmosphere ding-on and was easily the most tense part of the game for me. Everything beforehand was unsettling, but didn't strike the same chord of dread I got when opening that door to that big circular tunnel right after the entrance hall. Everything about it was super uncomfortable, I didn't even really feel safe in the living quarters.

Coupling the environment with a terrifying enemy (both really, they're basically the same aside from music and model), and probably one of the most interesting parts of the story really led to Theta feeling like the peak of the game. Not to say Omicron and onwards were not as good, they just couldn't match the massive impact Theta had on the game imo. The Abyss did really well though as well, it's probably the most memorable in my opinion as far as unique and fresh environments go, but Theta still takes the cake for what part of the game I'd encapsulate SOMA with.

Theta was the best part of the game for me, in terms of atmosphere, environment, and spooks.

To be more specific, I really enjoyed Theta labs part (-1 floor). This part was terrifying.

Agreed. Being chased by eternally screaming Dr. Akers was probably the most pleasant experience in the game

Delta.

Would be Curie if monster were less annoying.

I voted the Abyss.
Going down there with the climber was amazing! And just the atmosphere and the feeling of *being* down there went under my skin.

As Kein said: Curie was awesome, too, but the enemies there enraged me more than any other part of the game.

Delta was nice, too, because it was a nice breather before moving on.

The abyss by a mile.

That half-hour was completely unlike anything else I've played, almost an out-of-body experience. The way it used lighting was ingenious - the indistinctness of the enemies, the implicit and natural goal of "follow the lights", the panic-inducing areas where the glow sticks were broken, the illuminating robot's sudden destruction, and the anglerfish. The music and ambient sounds were also superb.

I wonder whether Hodgson's "The Night Land" was an influence.

RE: Favourite section of the game? *SPOILERS*

I actually loved the CURIE. I loved the feel and exploration of the sunken ship, not to mention I got to learn a little from the Captain about the surface and his reassurance the CURIE would not be affected by the comet. Jiangshi never really affected me. I forgot the "Don't look at it" warning Catherine gave me a while ago.

Theta was the area that annoyed me due to my ignorance and inability to fix the bloody elevator. Akers got pretty pissed at me too often and just made the area drag on. I also didn't feel much threat to the proxies shortly after.

RE: Favourite section of the game? *SPOILERS*

I chose the abyss because between the sound effects, the movement of debris at your feet, and limited vision, I really felt disorientated and immersed in the game. I think it was the area of the game where I felt like I had the least amount of control over my surroundings and because I knew that there were nightmarish creatures just waiting for me to step away from the light. So I guess it was a feeling of vulnerability that for some reason I didn't feel within the various labs.
