Chapter 2 crashing on Ubuntu 10.04

When I pass the power room and turn around the corner, I get dumped back to a terminal. Then the GDM login comes up, then back to the terminal - I have to hard shut down the machine.

I got my version with the Humble Indie Bundle.

Run the game, get the crash then go to home folder/.frictionalgames/PenumbraOverture/ take the hpl.log file, zip it and upload it here.

Nothing in the log that helped. Do you have compiz or similar active? Could you try and turn it off and see if that helps?

What graphics card do you have?

the log shows it's some kind of ATI card (just from the detected values.. ).. Are you running the LATEST available drivers for that card? As a hard crash of the X server like that is a driver issue..

According to lspci, I have:
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

I never considered disabling compiz. I'll try it today. If that's the cause of the problem then I can just set up a new user account that has compiz disabled.

Integrated Intel cards are, unfortunately, not supported. there are some reports that the Intel X3100 does work (on Mac OS X). Do you have any documentation/specs on the laptop you have?

I know that it's a Dell Insprion 1750 laptop, but that's about it!

Disabling Compiz seems to have done the trick though. I know that's a common fix for games, but I'm not a gamer usually and it never occurred to me. Thanks for your time - and a very enjoyable game Wink
