RE: Pressure
Sounds like a really cool game, but perhaps a bit too ambitious.

Why bother sleeping if a man can't dream?

Because you´d die of fatigue? Just kidding - I know what you meant.
I mean, with current climate of commercialization in the game industry coupled with current levels of technology, I feel that if someone tried making a game like Pressure, they wouldn´t be able follow through on their promises and us fans would be extremely disappointed.
But who knows? Maybe in five years... or maybe in ten years...

But who knows? Maybe in five years... or maybe in ten years... Agreed. Just look at Spore. I have never been so disappointed by a game in my life. It promised so much and had such a magnificent scope, only to end up as a rental, if even that.
I personally would love to see a game like Pressure, if it actually delivered and worked well. I can't really see it happening at all, though. If you give people too much freedom, they conjure up more problems than you could have ever done during production.

RE: Pressure
Frictional might do it, but there would have to be the following changes:
- not in an undersea lab: Frictional seems to enjoy average joe protagonists, and there's no way to explain how an average joe winds up in the middle of an undersea lab. Daniel can walk to a castle, Philip got to Greenland the way any of us could have with sufficient funds. Getting to an undersea lab would be quite difficult.
- Not assisting survivors. With the exception of Amabel, we don't meet any survivors in the Penumbra game, and we're unlikely to see escort missions in any upcoming games.
- No branching storylines or multiple playthroughs in multiple classes. Again, the Frictional fellows seem devoted to tailoring the story to one character, and multiple classes would reduce your connection to the character.
- No weapons. Frictional learned that lesson and are unlikely to forget it.
So other than that, maybe.

RE: Pressure
Frictional are good at making linear story-driven games on a low budget.
I don't see how they could make a game like Pressure. In fact, they seems to be good at the exact opposite.

Not really. Usually, 4chan hates everything.
All indie games are "viral" in the eyes of /v/. Anyone talking about them is labeled a viral marketer (people even accuse them of being the game creator trying to peddle his own game) even if the game isn't very successful.

RE: Pressure
This is exactly the type of game I want Frictional Games to make!!! Of course it would be different than the game described. This is the kind of game I want as my sequel for my Dark Depths story. Here are my thoughts for a modification to the story:
1: Your position would be a low level biologist, and completely unaware of what's really going in the deep sea research facility. Let's saw your player was gathering his papers and equipment for another day's work when everything shakes and rattles, knocking you out. You awaken to find your corridor is blocked off, everything is a wreck, and strange sounds roam.
2: As far as survivors go, let's say you don't know if anyone is still alive or not. It would leave a moral choice for you, leave the dangerous area or stay and see if you can save anyone trapped... if anyone is still alive.
3: For monsters, the known sea holds truly horrific creatures. Most of the ocean is unexplored, so who can tell what is down there. If this is a Government Top Secret deep sea facility, then any number of creatures would be there. Monster types could include experiments (government 'super weapons' that are not 'controllable'); captured specimens (that broke free from their inadequate aquariums); Lovecraftian-style deep sea horrors that even the heads of the base didn't know about (and is far scarier and more dangerous than the player realizes).
Now we, the users in this forum, could try to make this game. We could be the first to have a deep sea horror story in Frictional Games. Who knows, maybe the popularity of our story would encourage them to make one themselves.
What do you say? I wish to be part of this Deep Sea Team.

RE: Pressure
Frictional games are a game company. not a fast food restaurant. Statyk would you mind closing this?
