I'm getting strange low framerates at seemingly random times. I'll be wandering around a room at perfect 60fps, and the game will decide to start running at about 20fps until I quit and restart. To be clear, absolutely NOTHING is changing graphically when this happens, so its not simply my computer being unable to handle the load. Once the low fps starts I can return to an area that was running perfectly before and the low fps continue.

This also didn't happen at all in the demo using the same graphics settings, and no, I'm not mistaking the insanity effects for a low framerate (checked with fraps just to be sure).

System specs:

Intel core2duo at 3.0ghz
Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB
2GB ram
Windows 7

Game settings:
'High' chosen in 'General' tab of launcher.
1920x1080 resolution.

Tried this and I played for another 20 minutes and it hasn't happened again yet, so that may have fixed it. Seems a bit strange though, surely my PC can handle both Aero and Amnesia at the same time?

Thanks! I'll post in this thread again if it comes back.

OK the issue returned again later in the game twice more, requiring me to restart to continue with a nice framerate. So aero being turned off doesn't fix the problem, though it might make it happen less frequently.

Perhaps some background app running? I know that some antivirus progs or windows update can suddenly start and steal resources.

It might also be a card overheating program, and if so you need to check temperatures when playing or just clean it (can be a lot of dust in fan).

No, it's the same problem for me too. All I have to do is restart the game and everything works fine. I don't think it's another program interfering.

I'm having the exact same problem, every now and again my frames will drop from 65-75 to 20 for no reason.

I have a GTX260, i7 920 on Win7 64bit.

It's really destroying the immersion Sad

Exactly the same issue on core quad Q6600 GTX 280 4gb ram 7 32bit. I'm absolutely sure that it is a game bug, because these lags appears randomly, even during the game process. Playing with 60fps, then BOOM, it sinks to 15-20 just in the same place. So, I dropped the game till patch will be released. Don't wanna spoil my impression. Sad

Have anyone tried lowering settings? It might be a overheating issue (OpenGL is know doing this more easily Direct3D), which seems like the problem since a restart helps.

Also check the graphics control panel and see so all of the settings are application controlled and not any "extra things" are enabled.

Nope. The temperature keeps stable (according to everest). It is just within the game at first it works fine, then fps suddenly fall with no reason. Also, game randomly could be started in some cases normally and in other cases with low fps. Seems like something wrong in the code. I have got last DX and nvidia driver updates.
