Is map making hard?

So i map making difficult? Ive never done modding before
I hope its easy Undecided

And do i have do dowload sound an etc? Or does all tools come with the map maker?

Sorry, but that's the dumbest question EVER!

It depends on what kind of person you are, some people are slow at it, like me.
Some people are great at it from the start, so yeah, just go ahead and try it, you'll find out.

It really depends on yourself, and just a little bit on the editor.

I wouldn't say it's exactly hard. It takes perhaps an hour to get familiar with the basics of the map editor, and what you're doing is basically placing objects and set pieces into the 3d world to create a level. It's not really complicated. Scripting is probably what's harder for most people.

Building a map of the same quality as the ones in the real game takes a long time, though.

Making a map isn't hard...it might take some time to get used to the editor, and to get acquainted with all of the assets, but other than that, using the editor is a piece of cake.

Making a GOOD map, one that is well-optimized and just well-designed...that's a different story.

It took me a good few weeks to get used to the editor, and I'm still learning new stuff (ex. my "Fog" topic -.-). It takes me a good 5 hours just to get a single section (roughly 3 rooms) done, half of that on placing the static objects (walls'n'stuff), the other half on entities and sounds and particles and all that.

Take some time to read the wiki on the HPL2 editor. Follow the beginner tutorials, get used to the program, and you'll have the hang of it in a week or 2. Smile

I am at a low age (13) and I find map making with the editor quite easy. I never scripted before successfully and so when I tried it with this editor, it felt easy. I do need help for some scripting errors, but overall, it's fun and easy. Smile
