SOMA not working on 10.13.4 beta and eGPU

Hi all! I love SOMA and Frictional Games, I've played SOMA on 10.12.x and 10.13.3 with my eGPU, but now I'm running 10.13.4 beta for eGPU testing and sadly it doesn't work anymore. All other games I have (a lot) works great with 10.13.4 and eGPU. It works with integrated GPU but not with dedicated Vega64 eGPU.

The game loads menu and everything seems to work but loading a save game makes longer than usual and when its finish, I hit a key but the screen stay black, audio is working.

Don't know if it is beta/eGPU related or Vega64 drivers which changed in this release.

I know it is still beta, but I just want you to know Smile

If the screen stays black, check the log file which OpenGL version it's using. I had a similar issue on my older Mac where it would start but remain black and the OpenGL version was just below what it needed to be, in addition to there being a bug in the video driver. Obviously your computer has had the needed version in the past, but perhaps OpenGL support is different in the beta?

Hi! Same OpenGL 4.1, same supported core features.

I've directed this thread to Kat, our community manager. Since this appears to be an issue in regards to newer beta software drivers, I'm not entirely sure if much can be done if the issue cannot be replicated at this time by the support team. Despite the 4.1 OpenGL version, there may be some things SOMA relies on which aren't necessarily required in other games.

While I'm sure you would have done so, if there are any methods to update any graphics drivers, either through AMDs website or through your System otherwise, I do urge you to try. I seem to recall that getting graphics driver updates is pretty much dependant on coming with the system's update and not otherwise available.

For the sake of testing as well, what happens when you start a new game? Do the issues persist or does the game appear normal otherwise?

If also possible, could you also provide your save file? You can find it in the same folder as you found your hpl.log in one of the folder directories. If you are running the Steam version, it should be in a folder with your Steam ID followed by some hexadecimal characters. If you have opted for the NonSteam version, your saves should be in a Default folder. Smile

Sorry about the delays, you have actually caught some of the Frictional team while they are on a small break, but I am sure the team will check in Smile

Hi yes I've tried to start over a new game, same issue. Maybe it is a OpenGL issue that will be fixed in the next beta update or final release but the strange things that with all the games and software I have it seems to happen only to SOMA.
iMac pro has Vega graphics, maybe a tester/user with iMac pro could report if it has the same issue with 10.13.4 once released. I will report if next beta will fix this.

On macOS drivers are update with the OS itself.

It looks like the graphics card is detected by the game. Its hard to tell what the issue is without having the hardware. But it sounds like a driver issue.

You could try and play the game in Windowed or Borderless Windowed mode instead of Fullscreen mode.
The option for that is in Menu > Video > Rendering I belive

No luck. Updated to last public beta, same issue. I can wait for final 10.13.4 but then it could be a SOMA's issue on modern Mac GPU.

Soma doesn't work in beta 6 which should be the gold master
