Solved: 8 Years, 2 Months ago Bug  Something is wroooooooong!

Hi, I wonder if you can help.

Whenever I run Amnesia it crashes. Sometimes it crashes before I have even reached the main menu screen. Sometimes it crashes a few seconds after beginning to play.

Here is the "BlackBox" error message that I'm seeing:

Amnesia.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module atioglxx.dll at 001B:69BBD0D, atiPS()+6230349 byte(s)

Any ideas?

I have the following specs:

CPU Speed
2.3 GHz

RAM
3.0 GB

OS
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition Service Pack 2 (build 6002), 32-bit

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series

Thanks

The famous question:
Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card? If not, try to install the latest and run the game again.

Hmm, maybe try and lower some settings, like SSAO if you have turned it up from the default.

Do you know if you also have an integrated graphics chip in the computer (for low power running)? If so maybe it sometimes uses the wrong graphics when starting the game and that is the cause for the crash.

Changing the settings has made no difference unfortunately. Sad
I've also tried changing the resolution.
Exactly the same thing happens regardless of any permutation of settings I use.

I am using a Sony Vaio VGN-SR21M.
Graphic Processor ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3470
Installed Video Memory 256 MB
I am not aware of any integrated graphics chip for low power running on this machine.

Just some additional info:
The very first time I tried running Amnesia (a few days ago) it did not crash at all. Instead, it was mostly upside down. It ran smoothly and the graphics/textures looked nice but it was very difficult to see where I was going.
I say mostly upside down because certain things were the correct way up (such as the pink spots on the floor and certain light sources).

I tried to correct this problem by updating my drivers. It seemed to work at first, but after playing the game for a few seconds it crashed. Since then it has been crashing almost as soon as I even reach the menu.

Any ideas?

Hmm remove the main_settings.cfg file from My Documents/Amnesia/Main and see if starting the game (which re-creates the default settings) fixes it.

You can also check the control panel for ATI and turn off Catalyst A.I under 3D-All if it is active. Also try turning Wait for vertical refresh to off and if that does not work try setting it to on.

Thanks but still no luck. Sad

Delete main_settings.cfg -- Still crashes
Turn off Catalyst AI -- Still crashes
Turn off wait for vertical refresh -- Still crashes
Turn on wait for vertical refresh -- Still crashes

Also I have tried:

Reinstall game -- Still crashes
Download all windows updates -- Still crashes

Any more ideas on what I could try?

Thanks

If Jens don't give other suggestions for a while, try to restart the game from beginning without loading any savegames and see if it still crashes.
