Solved: 8 Years, 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago HPL Level editor crashing when opening a certain map

Hello, I have a very frustrating problem
I've been working on this custom map for a month now, and it's coming along nicely. EXCEPT the editor refuses to open the map for some reason. this started a few days ago.

Every other map in the game or other people's custom stories can be opened in the editor, but not my specific map.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

(This is the error log, sorry for the wall of text)

What was the last thing you did on your map before this happened?

I was adding some floor and walls, finishing off a short hallway.

Is it possible there are too many items in the map so it simply can't load? I have an idea, send me the map and i will see if i can open it =)

If you have any custom entities or models that you have changed since the map last worked, then it is possible that they aren't configured properly and that is causing the crash.

Well yes, I've got some custom models in my map. It might cause the crash, it's just that I cant remove them from my level now. Sad
Just to add: I can play the map in Amnesia just fine, no problems whatsoever.

Maps are stored in an xml format - so it should be possible to just remove those entities from your map file by hand in notepad or some other editor. I must stress though, that you should 100% absolutely back up your map files before doing this, and always work on a copy - never the original.
This is probably an unreasonable thing to try until you know it is your entities causing the problem, and that you can't fix the entities. To find this out create a map and add 1 of each custom entity to it - after adding a new entity save, exit and re-load. If the map no longer loads, you have just found your problem entity. It is first worth attempting (after backing up the entity) to change the settings in it until it loads (Try making the item static to start with; as stating a non existing physics body as the main body I think does crash the level editor). It is possible that more than one entity has a problem, so after fixing one entity continue on with the testing until you know every single custom entity works.

If this still doesn't fix your problem, i suggest looking at the xml in the map file. It isn't impossible that the map file has become corrupted and the game is running off of the .cmap file - as opposed to the one you edit? Anyway if this is the case, you may be best taking the hit and starting the map again if the whole file is damaged or even if you just cannot figure out the problem (it may take longer to work it out and fix it than to do the map again - as you shouldn't have to redo the script, and know exactly what goes where this time!) - After 1 hard disk failure screwing over a day of scripting, I always back up my current projects after i finish working on them for that session.

Thanks for the helpful reply, I really appreciate it!

I opened the map file with Notepad++, deleted the custom entities but it still doesn't fix the crash. After hours of frustration, I have decided to give up.

I guess I'll have to start all over again Tongue Backups every 1 hour and no more custom entities for me Smile
