RE: AAMFP GAMEPLAY - Warning: PewDiePie

I still fail to see how it would be Pewdiepies fault that screenshots are circulating the web. If he got a review copy of the game and instructions for what he can and can't show FG clearly intended for this video to hit the web. I wont watch it because I want to play the game not knowing anything of what to come, but I'm fine with all the people who want to watch the video.
I smell a lot of the old Pewdiehate in this thread, poor guy really is the scapegoat for a whole lot.

Well I don't play many games and I don't remember this sort of stuff happening before TDD came out. His video would have been more suitable for a launch trailer - just remove the shrieking man child playing it and there you go. The content released when the game's release date was announced was fine; it didn't really give anything away but I think someone 'reviewing' it in a video two weeks before its release just doesn't make sense. And knowing what PDP is like at commentary I highly doubt it was a review, it'd be more of a puerile attempt at being funny with his tasteless jokes and such. I know you're a fan and I don't mean to offend but this is what I see in him.

I said before that he could write a blog post on his experience and there would be no screenshots and no footage until release or a few days beforehand.

I think the premise is quite simple: he played the game, his fans shared the footage along with the screenshots and there we go. If it wasn't for his video these spoilers wouldn't exist; however, PDP isn't the only one: if FG didn't give him the review copy this wouldn't have happened.

His fans shared it all over the web but it was still up to PDP to upload his video.

And doesn't what his behavior demonstrates matter most? This is basically a third trailer (as desperate as people have been for news) on the game, and it's a really low-brow one at that.

I may have a bit of a hard time replying to that since I haven't watched the montage video myself, and can't really comment on some of the things you're bringing up.

So let's just leave it at that for now?

Him playing serious is all an act I assure you.

Oh I never said he plays serious. I am well aware that Pewdie is NEVER 100% serious when he's playing games. It's his style of being light-hearted, and jokey in games. What I meant is that while he may be fooling around in games quite often it doesn't mean he has no respect for the game at all.

You try being funny while commentating a horror game.

You guys aren't giving him any credit.

He's done charity livestreams, makes thank you videos and Fridays with PDP to connect with his fans more, I can't count the number of times he's said compliments to games he's played, and most recently he hosted the Humble Weekly Sale and probably got a ton of money for the indie developers. (I think it involved donating money to a children's hospital too if I remember correctly)

The video was definitely not a review, and just another one of Pewdie's many videos. 99% the case without me even having to watch it.

As for not liking him...don't worry about it! each to his own. I won't blame you if you don't like him Wink

RE: Amnesia and Pewdiepie

Alright detractors. I agree that I think PewdiePie is a content maker I really dislike. I'm sure the guys quite a nice man, heck a couple of people I am friends with make absolute dread in terms of content wise. For this case, I am going to say that giving PewdiePie permission to use the first hour and a half chopped down was probably a wise move for Frictional.

Let's talk about advertising. You have probably seen some some billboards going around advertising Grand Theft Auto V or some other game. The cost of advertising on a billboard that would take 6 sheets to make amounts to £250 for anywhere outside London for one month PER BILLBOARD.

To effectively advertise on a low budget, you would have to spend at least £700,000 on billboard advertising alone. For facebook advertising you can set your budget, but to get to an audience I would say you'd need to budget yourself at least £10,000 per day.

As for television, the cost of a small advertising campaign will equal to about £100,000 PER CHANNEL PER MONTH, and with a massive 607 channels on sky, that means you'd need to spend £3,000,000 to get to half of those channels for one month on that budget.

Additionally, you have to take on the Advertising Standards Authority when advertising on television. From the Halloween trailer, they hit at least this rule.
- 4.3 - References to anyone who is dead must be handled with particular care to avoid causing offence or distress.

The advertisement may also cause a storm of complains from parents or scared and screaming children, calling for the game to be heavily censored or something dumb, and with the Daily Mail, that is something a small business like Frictional or Chinese Room cannot afford to be bombarded with.

And that is just for the United Kingdom, which is (visually) the same size as Florida.

With PewdiePie making this video, it's a win win situation for Frictional. They don't have to spend a massive boat load of money on billboard, facebook, or television advertisements, they don't have to be under the watchful eye of the ASA, and Pewds gets to make money from it. In the UK, it would take about £4,000,000 to advertise in the UK, and it may not grab the audience. With PewdiePie, you reach out to millions of people for free, and all you have to do is give him the demo and say "go nuts with the first hour and half before release day". What kind of marketing department wouldn't want that? Within 17 hours the video has been viewed about 900,000 times, that's gold dust to a marketing department.

You will probably disagree with me and, yeah, I can see where you are coming from. I dislike PewdiePie's content like the next guy, but I am baffled by people calling this the worst move imaginable.

You shouldn't in the first place it is meant to be played as intended.

Besides that he gets paid for views and subscribers so if you think he really is a "good person" then you fail to see that he is in it for the money.(just the money)

Those people wont play but rather watch another weakling act like he is scared and isn't just trolling (I mean really I might have senses of stone but I've never ever screamed like an idiot)
How hard is playing as intended, really I mean the fact that he cuts his videos and trolls means he can't be taken serious.

Way to generalize there. I've been subscribed to PDP before he even got 100 000 subscribers and I've played all Penumbra games, Amnesia and Justine and I am going to play Aamfp when I get it. But I have to agree with you that the things he does now is exagerated compared to his earlier videos.

Well, FG gave instructions and a copy of the game to a guy that makes videos, he makes a video of it and upload it. I don't blame him.

Well I don't blame him entirely but it was still up to him to upload the video, if I was a receiver of a review copy I would rather write about it rather than share a video mainly because there are people who want to experience these events first hand.
