RE: Music Discussion thread

I was wrong when I said I enjoyed structurally complex and technically challenging music.

(A simplistic and lyrical melody is what I enjoy)

most people would

it took a few listens for me to really enjoy it but theres actually a lot of hooks and catchiness behind all the chaos

When it comes to this kind of music, you have to listen it more to like it more.
It kind of grows to you, your brain starts to take it differently.
Beginners are unable to hear the awesomeness.

Na, I'll stick to jazz/indie/classic rock/ and what ever shit I feel like listening too that doesn't rape my eardrums.

Yeah I'm not exactly into ear rape so i'm staying with the usual shit that I listen to... usually lists as Indie/Alternative rock.

Na, you're just narrow minded.

???????

ive come tithe conclusion that pretty much everyone has the capacity to enjoy stuff like this but the combination of the very very small variety of music one is generally exposed to + cultural standards for good music keep a lot of people from enjoying it

from an objective standpoint harsh vocals really aren't that sonically different from a lot of percussion instruments and generally people who enjoy them critically evaluate them in a very similar manner that you'd evaluate percussion instruments. melodic vocals are judged using very different criteria but unfortunately since like 99% of the music the majority of people are exposed to at a young age has melodic vocals people automatically apply that same criteria to harsh vocals even though that's the equivelant of using the standards you'd judge a guitarist with to judge a drummer.

so like yeah i get why most people think this sort of stuff has awful vocals but i can bet u in 9/10 cases that doesn't have to do with the way they all sound but rather the culture surrounding music. as for the specific instrumentation of that car bomb song i linked that's a whole other story and the super technical start/stop vibe it has going is more of an acquired taste

That Car Bomb is a fun song. The only thing I dislike about it is the fact I have to clue what they're saying.

"Veni, vidi, vici."
"I came, I saw, I conquered."

Your point being that we are applying the wrong criteria for the wrong music?

RE: Music Discussion thread

essentially

and cause u cant really even have criteria for those sorts of vocals if you've never listened to them much but the same can be said if you never listened to melodic vocals in your life and then someone threw a bunch of shit at you when youre like 16 and was like "hey decide which of these are good"

RE: Music Discussion thread

Wouldn't that mean that one could never gain a new musical taste?
