Have you tried to notice WHEN the dips happen?

Yeah, it's not even when a lot is going on in the game world, for example I only get a slight dip (maybe 5 frames) when I'm out in the huge ocean - this seems perfectly reasonable as it certainly looks graphically intensive BUT there's occasions indoors, in seemingly simple areas where if I turn around I could drop 20 frames. At first I thought it was light sources but I'm not sure plus it's not triggered by action either, it's just odd. I did have a hour or so near the start where the game ran perfectly, so I guess it could also be a leak. Again, I'd hasten to add it's not my setup, my PC is designed to run editing software and games and nothing else so all background and startup programs are in line, the temperature is sound etc.

How much RAM do you have? It seems to me that SOMA has to load stuff very often for you because it lacks of RAM to keep things for a while in there but I could be wrong.
For me, it eats (allocates) up to 5-6GB RAM.

I've got 16gb of ram, using a ssd, i7 at close to 4ghz. I play most games at 1440p 60fps though I do have to turn off things like ssao to keep 60fps on most modern games. With Soma I can't maintain 60fps at 1080p or even lower. It gets worst the further in you get so I imagine more people will encounter this issue. It's a shame, I'm not TOO fussed about graphics or even frame rates but it's the instability and inconsistency that really breaks the immersion.

That's truly weird then. What the GPU again and driver version?

Also had really random terrible stuttering and my I7/GTX 970 wasn't even breaking a sweat, also game was locked to 30fps. Finally fixed it by changing the refresh rate from 59 to 60, now runs at 60fps smooth as a baby's bottom, shame i have wasted 2 hours of the game.
