Solved: 8 Years, 1 Month ago Graphics support

Hi there,

I have attached a grab and an hpl.log archive as requested.

When I first ran Penumbra it looked great, but a little jerky. All the textures and lights looked excellent. I was able to play until the snow hatch, where the door symbol was very difficult to get, at which point I died.

Then I followed instructions and updated to the latest ATI retail driver for my Radeon 9000Mac card, and suddenly all the graphics look s**t. The textures are all gone, the objects are in bits, and flashing, it's impossible to play. I attach a grab of the cabin as an example. I just tried attaching a sytem profile but the forum page wont let me, so heres a little detail. Graphite G4/400 with Giga Design upgraded processor at 1.4Ghz. OSX 10.4.10, 1.38GB SDRAM, ATI Radeon 9000Mac Graphics.

I am unable to get my system back to where it was before, any suggestions? I'd love to play the game...

Do other games have this problem? I think there's failsafe against this, but you might have installed the wrong drivers.

Btw, copy/paste the contents of the hpl log next time, it makes it much easier to read ;-)

My friend had a problem like that, but we never discovered the problem. I would load the cabin and you could see the object clearly and everything clearly, but in about 2 seconds it froze. I guess its not so simmilar after all...

Try reverting back to the stock OS X ATI Drivers and use the 1560 release I just put on the tracker. I fixed the *crash* that you encountered when getting to the hatch. And fixed the last of what I can find of lighting issues on ATI and Nvidia cards..

It looks like whatever video card drivers you installed don't seem to support Fragment programs, only vertext programs, thus everything looks *crappy* and no textures. dropping the shader quality to LOW will get around this.

I have re-istalled OS X Tiger 10.4.10 from disc. The ATI drivers are now a standard part of the Tiger install. This has not made any difference to the graphics in Penumbra.

To answer the earlier question, yes, other games like RtCWofenstein play fine.

The confusing thing is that Penumbra played fine until I went to the ATI website and downloaded the "latest drivers", which is actually the ATI Utilities Control Panel, which I dont need!

Yes! 1560 and the patch makes it work. A few jaggy flashes, light at the bottom of the drop from the hatch for instance, but I can now get to the end of this great Demo.

The Texture, on The Wall Flicker an Jums Left an Right. i have a 20" Alu iMac with the Ati RadeonHD2600

I just got a used ATI 9800 Pro Mac card and now the demo works perfectly, so good I just bought the full episode 1.

Good luck with the next Ep...
