RE: An Idea/Suggestion

Sounds like a great idea. Doesn't really play along too well with play-troughs etc. But yet again, it's up to the player how many of the immersive elements he/she wants to use (dark room, headphones/surround sound, in this case sound etc).
Would love to see this as a feature in the next Amnesia! Smile

RE: An Idea/Suggestion

Your idea is interesting but I don´t think it would work in Amnesia as it is now, it would not ruin the game for LP:ers etc. if it worked as an option, but still; it would not work. There is no need for the player to be able to talk during the game, there are no conversations (you mostly listen to old conversations) and there´s nothing that would be enhanced by using your voice. Now, Amnesia scared me the first time I played it, and other games have also scared me, but I never scream or do things like that. So why would one need a microphone?

RE: An Idea/Suggestion

People who actually scream when playing Amnesia alone have no self control. I never once said anything in the game when I was alone, and my brother actually watched me play it for a large portion of the game and even then usually we were just silent (I was the one with headphones immersed in the game anyway). Maybe I would say something like "enemy" to him and he would say "oh really?" but that's it. If you come across something life-threatening and have to remain hidden to stay alive, your first- screw it, natural instinct is to shut up entirely. So the feature makes no sense because only total morons would give away their position by screaming. It's a good idea that would work better in a VR environment (man, playing Amnesia in virtual reality would be SO fucked up) but today it doesn't really make any sense.

This all differs from person to person. I can scream my lungs out while playing amnesia but there's nothing wrong with my self control.

I apologize, I didn't mean it as an insult. I'm just saying I don't find it realistic. When you say scream your lungs out do you actually mean scream loudly as a natural reaction to playing the game? I guess then it does differ from person to person. Personally even if I am horrified or completely taken aback by a cheap jump scare I don't usually react verbally. Actually the only time I do is when watching something humorous.

Well screaming is also a natural instinct, but different things are different for different people. For example if I'm in a lot of pain, I don't scream, I show I'm pain in different ways, but different people I know do scream. I guess it's the same with getting scared, some people may scream, but I myself never scream, and I show my fear in different ways.

Yup, things like jumpscares make me scream like a little girl, have a peek at my channel and you'll see exactly what I mean.
While playing the original TDD however I barely did make any noise at all, I just have a weakspot for loud noises combined with things suddenly being in my face without explanation.

You literally just copy and pasted part of my comment. You could of just quoted Huh

there would be a range of the amount that they can hear. like, at the quietest, 50db can be heard by the monsters. thats equivalent to a quiet conversation

I was talking more about technical difficulties, though. Everyone has different microphone devices and setting thus it will be quite a mess without some kind of tool to tweak/calibrate the setting/input values.
