I'd also suggest adding some simple box shapes to the edges of the crate. So it looks like you have pieces of wood that are holding the planks its made of together, y'know? Would be a very easy way to make it look much more interesting. Like this sort of:

I think Statyk meant that during when you're making the normal map to use some photoshop methods to cover up the words so that whatever software you use doesn't get confused by the words as things that have depth. After you're done making the normal map, just undo what you did to hide the words.

Yea, I've understood what he meant. I just say "How-can-i-do-it". Does Crazy Bump anything to do that? I've downloaded it and I like it a lot. It will be useful for... things Angel

Crazy Bump automatically analyzes your image to create a normal map of it. I don't think it can really tell what you "want", and don't.

The best way to make a normal map of a texture with "non-depth" text on it I'd say would be to apply the text on a plain texture after it already had its normal map created.

When using crazybump set the shape recognition slider to 0 (otherwise things which are straight may come out looking bent - which can be useful when making certain organic things). To hide a text, simply export a diffuse without the text layer and import that into crazybump. Then generate your normal map.

Edit: As for the model I'd do what hirnwibel said. I'd also tone down the spec map.
