Destiny

Do you believe in destiny?

I for one don't, but it would be awesome to hear some of your opinions and thoughts on such a deep topic.

I actually love the idea behind it, that everything is predetermined and you can't do shoe about it, but then comes the question, is there a point in living if what we do don't actually have a personal purpose, just a global one tied to the destiny of us all? That our free will is tied to what we are meant to be, and not what we want to become.

Such as the simple thing that we can actually choose to sit around and do nothing for a whole day, is that part of our destiny or are we only able to move and act within a certain limit of our predetermined path? And are there ways to change our destiny?

I love to eat and I've been blessed with a lot of food. Maybe my destiny is to become fat, who knows.

I resent the idea. I'm fiercely independent and vehemently oppose ideas that are forced upon me (the ones I consciously notice). Still, the idea of destiny isn't completely detestable to me. As long as I didn't know what it was I would be able to adapt to just living in blissful ignorance. Nemesis567 may come along and try to convince people that they are spectators in their own bodies again but honestly, anyone who has experienced blackouts knows what being a spectator really feels like (it doesn't feel good).

Does life need a meaning to be lived?

If the answer is "no" then the question is made redundant.

If you believe in destiny it means that all your actions will go along a predestined path wether you like it or not. So even if you choose not to do something because you think it's your destiny then you're actually following your destiny since it would be predetermined that you wouldn't or would do that choice.

I don't fully belive in destiny, that your future is written in stone and you can't change it. So instead of asking myself "What is the meaning of life?" I'd rather ask "What is the purpose with life?"

I belive that we are all born with a number of paths we may follow. Some paths are better and leads to greater goals others are worse, some are born with better paths to choose others are born with worse. (In a perfect world we'd all be equal, but this is not a perfect world...and with equal I reffer to economy and nationality)
A child might be born with a path that leads to him/her curing cancer, which would be a great purpose for that childs life. But it is up to this person to decide wether or not to follow this path.

I'm a rationalist. There is no evidence for destiny, and even if one believes that they've seen destiny in effect in their lives, I'd argue that they are seeing patterns that don't exist.

It's impossible to prove destiny, but its also impossible to prove that there is no destiny.

you can use the argument "i can do whatever i want, if i wanted i could grab a knife and stab myself now" but what if that's your destiny ?

No one can know, you can throw as many links to "scientific" websites or books at each other as you want, but you're not going to reach any bottom or come to any final conclusion.

As for me, i don't bother myself with pointless questions like this. I live my life, if there is destiny thats fine, there's nothing i can do about it. If not, that's also fine. Call me narrow minded, i dont give a shit
