Old and updated card driver problem

Hi,I'm an old Amnesia player and I've had a problem with drivers. Allow me to explain.

Today I've tried to play Amnesia and didn't work because of graphic drivers problems. I downloaded Penumbra to test and I saw that it didn't work either.

So I've installed older graphic drivers and I've found that not only Amnesia but also Penumbra work great with these two drivers.
However,the older drivers won't adapt resolutions lilke 1280x768 but only keeping the proportions,leaving black borders and all that if I don't use resolutions like 1280x720 or 1920x1080 (and I think 1024x720).
What should I do?
Keep the older drivers and enjoy my games or update for the newer ones and don't play?
Is there a fix for this?

What type of graphics card are you using, also does this occur for others using the same card and drivers?
